When you look at Pacific Rim: Tales from the Drift cover by LivioRamondelli, first what comes to mind is that that piece has a classical Sci-Fi concept, but that's not the main thing it makes it special. The next thing was that it absolutely reminds of Transformers movie, and maybe that's where the inspiration came from.
